Does the AI voice agent replace the phone system?
Not necessarily. The agent can connect to an existing phone system over SIP, and calls to your current number can be forwarded to the agent's number.

An IVR makes callers press keys and listen to menus, while an AI voice agent lets them say what they need and answers or transfers them. Tech Ingrained offers an AI voice agent for businesses in Romania, so below we also say openly when an IVR is enough.
| IVR menu | AI voice agent | |
|---|---|---|
| How callers say what they need | Press keys, following a fixed menu | Speak freely, in Romanian or English |
| What it solves on its own | Plays recorded messages | Answers from your documents, books appointments through an integration, takes messages |
| When it does not know | There is no option; the caller tries another key | Says so and transfers the call or takes a message |
| Out of hours | A recorded message | Answers questions and takes messages |
| When something changes | A new menu is recorded | The documents it answers from are updated |
| How it is paid for | Usually part of the phone system | A monthly subscription per number, plus call minutes |
An IVR plays a recorded message and asks callers to choose an option with their keypad: press 1 for appointments, 2 for billing. Each option leads to another message or an extension. The menu is fixed: whatever was not foreseen has no key.
The AI voice agent recognises what the caller says, understands the request and answers out loud, from the company's documents. It can transfer the call to the right person, take a message or book an appointment through an integration. Callers do not hunt for the right key: they say what they need.
When calls fall clearly into a few categories and each one reaches a person who answers. A well-made IVR with few options remains a simple solution for such cases.
When many calls get the same answer — opening hours, prices, address, the status of an order —, when the phone rings out of hours, or when callers give up in the menu. The agent resolves part of the calls directly and passes the rest to people, with the reason for the call already known.

Yes. An IVR option can send the call to the agent, for frequent questions for example, while the other options stay with people.
Tech Ingrained's AI voice agent costs €5.00 a month per number, plus €0.15 per minute of incoming calls; the prices are public. An IVR is usually part of the phone system, but it does not answer questions.
